Intervention plan

So in our meeting today, we spoke about the details of our final intervention. Anna and myself both said we'll post some material from our (largely unsuccesful!) group trip to Canary Wharf last week, but for now, unless I've missed anything, here is what we agreed:

On their chosen night, between roughly the hour of 2:00 and 3:00 am (the time in which the majority of people are most likely to be sleeping) each member of the group will position themselves in their chosen space that best represents the coming '24/7' society. They will spend this hour attempting to be very aware of their surroundings; documenting all that they see and hear, as well as photographing anything they deem to be of interest.

Then, around midday, each group member will return to their chosen spot with the poster they have created based on the observations made, and display one or more in the general vicinity. Here, a photograph of the poster on display would be useful for our essays and hopefully even some shots of people looking at them. We also raised the idea of using more easily distributable flyer-sized print-outs of our photographic/textual observations if the place you are observing is likely to just remove the poster as soon as you put it up! These could be placed on tables, even just dropped on the floor. Perhaps ideally, a mixture of both could be used at each location.

In terms of the actual locations, so far, this is what we've agreed:

Jody: Oxford city centre

Anna: Hampstead Hospital

Karishma+Aldo: City Airport(?)

Kris: 24/7 Supermarket in Slough(?)

Cain: St Pancras Station

Leah: ?

I'm not 100% sure that this is right, so could you guys please confirm that everyone knows what they're doing, and so we don't end up doing the same place twice? Also, Leah, if you were unsure about where to do it... There's a few 24/7 supermarkets dotted around (Tesco in Hackney, ASDAs in Clapham+Charlton) as well as plenty of 24/7 Hotels that might be interesting to observe from the foyer.

Hope this is clear, after the interventions are all sorted we should either meet up at the library to talk about essays or plan a time for a group meeting on Facebook or something...

P.S. I'd love to know what you guys thought of the 'poster ideas' I blogged a few weeks ago. They're quite rough at the moment but I thought I'd keep it simple. I think I like the productivity/business-esque concept ones the best, and was thinking that everyone could create something similar themselves on Word/Photoshop to use for their posters? So that the various interventions all seem to follow a similar aesthetic thread?

  1. Hi, I think london city airport is off the list - no flights after around 10pm i think!

London Stansted seems like it would be a good one to do:

'A crowd of around 100 travellers (up to 400 in summer) camp in the main departure/arrivals hall every night, effectively turning it into a giant dormitory.'

but a bit too far away from us all I think...

Anyway, just wanted to check that Aldo and Leah know what they're doing as I haven't got you down for anywhere yet?
